Popcorn


Popcorn is a favourite for all age group. Popcorn and movies go together...watching movies either at home or theatre with a popcorn bowl....brings in more enjoyment both with friends and family.... This is so easy and gets done in min and you don't have to count the extra calories....Kids will Love this and elders too....and a best snack......and we can make it in cooker in min....lets see how to make it.

Ingredients:-
Popcorn seeds - 1 cup
Oil - 2 tsp
Salt to taste.
Method:-
1. Heat oil in pressure cooker. Add pop corn seeds and shuffle so that oil coats on the seeds.
2. Close the cooker with a plate. popcorn will start popping. once the sounds stops switch off the stove.

3. Add salt to it mix well and transfer it to a air tight container.

4. Tasty Pop corns are ready.



Vegetarian thali -7

This simple vegetarian thali consists of palak rice, tomato raitha, curd rice and onion pickle,chenna dal pakoda. The individual receipe of the same is available in the blog.

Puran poli/Poli


This is my 50th post. Thought should post a sweet dish. Made puran poli or poli today . I learnt this recipe from my mom. Poli is made during pongal festival on Bhogi festival day.Lets see how to make it....
Ingredients:-
Chenna Dal - 1 cup
Jaggery - 1 cup
Maida flour - 1 cup
oil - 2 tsp
Turmeric powder - a pinch
Cardamon powder - 1/4 tsp

Method:-
1. In a bowl add maida, turmeric powder,oil and mix with enough water and make it into soft Dough and keep it aside for 2 hours.
2. Boil chenna Dal in pressure cooker, drain water and keep aside.
3. In a pan add Jaggery with little water, add cardamon powder and let it boil.
4. Add chenna Dal to this and mix well until it becomes thick. Switch off the stove and let it cool.
5. Grind it in mixer with out water. puran is ready. take it in a bowl.
6. Make equal size balls of maida dough and  puran.
7. Roll maida balls into round shape, place puran in the middle, fold it from all sides.
8. Roll it into round shape.
9. Heat a pan, place the poli on the pan , add a tsp of ghee and fry on both sides till golden.
10.Fry all the polis this way. Hot and tasty polis ready to eat.

Thenga Thugayal/Coconut chutney/Kobbari pachadi

Ingredients:-
Fresh coconut scraped - 2 cups
Tamarind - Lemon sized
Salt to taste
Urad Dal - 3 tsp
Chenna Dal - 3 tsp
Small Red chillies- 10
For Seasoning:-
Oil - 1 tsp
Mustard Seed - 1 tsp
Asafoetida - a pinch
Method:-
1. Heat oil in a pan, add chenna Dal, urad Dal, red chillies, tamarind and fry till golden brown.

2.Switch off the stove and let it cool. Add fresh coconut,salt to it and  coarsely grind it in a mixer. Add little water while grinding.
3. Heat oil in a pan add seasoning, fry and add it to the ground coconut chutney.
4. Tasty coconut chutney is ready.
5. You can serve it as a side dish with rice,dosa,idli,chapati,pori, upma etc.  

Drumstick Sambhar/Murungakkai Sambar/Munakkaya Sambhar

Ingredients:-
Drumstick - 2
Tamarind - lemon sized
Salt to taste
Tuar Dal - 1/2 cup
Turmeric powder - a little
Sambhar powder - 2 tsp
Curry leaves - few
Coriander leaves - few

For Seasoning:-
Oil - 1 tsp
Mustard Seeds - 1 tsp
Asafoetida - 1 tsp

Method:-

1. Pressure cook Dal with enough water, allow it to cool and keep it aside.
 

2. Soak tamarind in water for half an hour, extract juice and strain.
3. Cook drumstick in little water till it becomes soft.
4. Add tamarind extract, salt, turmeric powder and let it boil .
5. Add sambhar powder and finally add tuar Dal to it and cook till thick.
6. Heat oil in a pan add seasoning, when mustard seeds start spluttering
 add it to sambhar.
7. Switch of the stove garnish with curry and coriander leaves.
8. Serve hot with cooked rice.


Rava Upma/Sooji Upma

Ingredients:-
Rava - 1 cup
Salt to taste
Ghee - 1 tsp
Curry leaves- few
Coriander leaves - few
For Seasoning:-
Oil - 1 tsp
Mustard Seeds - 1 tsp
Chenna Dal - 1 tsp
Urad Dal - 1 tsp
Green Chillies - 2
Asafoetida - 1 pinch
Method:-
1.Heat oil in a pan add seasoning and fry till golden brown.
2.Add rava and fry till golden.
3.Add water, salt and let it cook until water is absorbed completely.
4. Add ghee and garnish with coriander and curry leaves.
5. Hot and tasty upma is ready to eat.

Palak Rice/Pasalai Keerai Sadam/Palaku annam

Today i have made ghee at home. i was left with the strained jeera and curry leaves.Usually i add it to sambhar which enhances the flavour of sambhar.
But i thought why cant i use it to make palak rice. I added 3 red chillies to this jeera and curry leaves and ground it into course paste with which i made the palak rice. It turned out into yummy rice.
Ingredients:-
Cooked rice - 3 cups
Palak- 1 bunch
Onions- 2
Curry leaves - 10 leaves
Jeera - 1 spoon
Ground nuts-2 tsp
Red chillies- 3 tsp
Salt to taste
ghee - 3 tsp
Mustard Seeds - 1 tsp
Urad Dal - 1 tsp
Chenna Dal - 1 tsp
Method:-
1. wash and cut palak and keep it aside.
2.Heat one tsp of ghee in a pan,add curry leaves,jeera,red chillies and fry a little bit.
3. keep aside and let it cool and grind it into course powder.(i have used the jeera,curry leaves left over from ghee making)
4. Heat remaining ghee in a pan add Mustard seeds, ground nuts,chenna dal,urad Dal and fry till golden. 
5.Add cut onions,salt and fry till golden brown.Add the ground jeera,red chilli,and curry leaves powder.
6. add cut palak leaves, let it cook.
7.Add cooked rice to this mixture, mix well and switch of the stove.
8. Tasty Palak Rice is ready to eat.
